Class 6B

Beamish - Crank It Up!

We have worked very hard over these past few weeks building a crane from K'Nex. We took our final design to Beamish for the competition. We won an award for 'The Best Problem Solving' category which I feel sums us up as a class! We all had a lovely time and even squeezed in a visit to the school - some children even asked if corporal punishment could be reintroduced because it sounded 'fun'!

York

On Thursday, we had a lovely day in York. We started with a snack at the base of Clifford's Tower. We then had a walk to York Minster and a look down The Shambles. We then spent some time learning about archaeology and medieval medicine. We finished the day with a look around Jorvik. We all agreed that the ride was the best part of the day!

Year 6 Residential

We had a super time at High Adventure! We canoed, caved, climbed and much more!

June 2019

What a busy time we have had recently! We have been working hard on our upcoming STEM competiton with Beamish, visiting the UTC for science activities, earning the Green Tree Award, having chick visitors and a trip to the theatre! We had a lovely visit to the Hullabaloo to watch a performance called Spirits of the Sea. We were enthralled! It was extra exciting when we realised it was Chris Connaghton in the lead role. We are looking forward to a follow up workshop next week!

Thursday 14th February 2019

We have been working super hard in class. We have been jiving in music, splitting light in science and looking at the impact of the Vikings on Lindisfarne. Take a look at some of our work!

Monday 21st January 2019

We have started the new year off with new topics. Our class read is 'Skelling' and we are already hooked! It links in with our mystery unit in English and we can't wait to find out what will happen. In maths, we have solved a murder most horrid. We put our detective and statistic skills to the test to realise that Jackie was innocent and that it was someone else who commited the awful crime. We had great fun solving it through line graphs and pie charts.

Monday 5th December 2018

Today was Decorating Day! We had great fun making our calendars and cards. We also made the world's longest paper chain - possibly! It was a lovely way to start our festivities and we are looking forward to our last few school weeks of the year.

Friday 23rd November 2018

We have been working hard this week. We have been developing our flair by writing persuasive letters to Mr Parker. He thoroughly enjoyed reading them and described the work as 'fabulous'! We are using endangered animals to help us focus our writing.  We are currently investigating orcas in captivity. We are then moving on to orangutans and their habitats. We will finish the unit by looking at an animal closer to home - the barn owl!

Remembrance Week.                                                                                                              This has been a very special week for our class. We have looked at various aspects of WW1 from the role of the railways to the symbolism of a poppy. With help from Mrs Lunt, we created beautiful poppies, listened to war time stories, solved clues around people who served and tried a war time meal. We also felt very privileged to end the week with our special assembly. We were so proud of our performance!

Friday 28th September 2018

We have had a special visitor; our very own viking! We had great fun listening to tales of the lingworm, trying on viking artefacts, spelling our names in runes,  being archaeologists and digging for burial items and ending with a tafl game!

Monday 17th September 2018

This week, we have been perfecting our Roman Numeral skills. We felt so confident with this, we decided to teach our knowledge to 5W! We even taught them the moves for the song below!
