General Information

Welcome

Welcome to our website. We hope it will provide you with the information you require. If there is something missing you would like to know or better still, you would like to visit please do not hesitate to contact the school.

BRandH Academy

BrandH Academy  is committed to providing all of our children with a rich learning environment. This means placing due emphasis on children becoming proficient in English and Maths whilst providing them with many different experiences both in and out of the classroom.

Heighington CE Primary School and Bishopton Redmarshall CE Primary School became “convertor” academies  to form BrandH Academy  which opened in 2011. We currently have 290 children at Heighington and 104 at Bishopton.

Almost all of Heighington’s children come from a relatively small area, Heighington village, Redworth village and the Chestnuts in School Aycliffe. The remainder come from other parts of School Aycliffe, Newton Aycliffe and a few from even further afield.

Bishopton Redmarshall being in a rural village draws children from a wider area including Bishopton, Redmarshall, Carlton, Norton, Newton Aycliffe, and Darlington

We can admit up to 40 children in a year group at Heighington and 15 at Bishopton, so this means we have mixed year classes and the class members change every year. We follow a two year rolling programme of topics to ensure that the children do not repeat or miss out on any learning. English and Maths are taught on a one year programme of study and teachers provide work for the different abilities within their classes. Phonics is taught daily for all children up to the age of 7 according to their stage of learning.

The schools are set in superb, spacious and attractive grounds. Foundation children have their own very well equipped play area. There is a range of fixed outdoor equipment for the children to play on, and children in years 1 to 6 can borrow smaller play equipment at lunchtimes.
